Brain scan could help get patients off breathing machines sooner

NCT ID NCT03372252

Summary

This study tested whether measuring brain activity could help doctors predict when patients in intensive care are ready to breathe on their own after being on a ventilator. Researchers used a simple, non-invasive EEG to measure brain signals during a standard breathing test in 70 patients. The goal was to see if these brain signals could better identify patients who would succeed in coming off the ventilator, potentially reducing failed attempts and complications.
