Scientists scan brains to unlock mystery of schizophrenia voices

NCT ID NCT07003529

Summary

This study aims to understand how the brain creates auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) in people with schizophrenia. Researchers will use MRI brain scans to compare brain activity and connections in 40 participants—some who experience these voices and some who do not. The goal is to learn if a specific brain region called the inferior colliculi acts like a faulty filter, letting internal thoughts be mistaken for external voices.
