New study shines light on brain oxygen in vulnerable newborns
NCT ID NCT05588960
First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This observational study uses a safe, non-invasive light-based monitor to measure oxygen levels in the brains of two groups of newborns at high risk of brain injury: full-term babies undergoing cooling treatment for oxygen deprivation, and extremely premature babies. Researchers aim to see how brain oxygen levels relate to brain injury on scans and other health outcomes. The study does not test a new treatment, but gathers important information to improve care.
