Scientists watch newborn brains breathe to predict injury

NCT ID NCT05588960

Summary

This study aims to better understand brain oxygen levels in newborns at high risk of brain injury. Researchers will use a safe, non-invasive sensor to monitor oxygen in the brains of 99 babies: some born very early and others receiving cooling treatment for oxygen deprivation at birth. The goal is to see if these oxygen patterns relate to brain injury seen on scans and to future development, which could help guide care in the future.
