Scientists map destructive brain storms after trauma

NCT ID NCT03321370

Summary

This study aims to better understand a harmful process in the brain called 'cortical spreading depolarization' that can worsen damage after a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Researchers will place a small grid of electrodes on the surface of the brain in 10 patients who already need brain surgery for their injury. The goal is to track where these harmful brain waves start and how they spread, which could one day lead to new treatments to stop them.
