Scientists probe hidden brain risks in tiny heart patients

NCT ID NCT04992793

Summary

This study aimed to better understand why babies born with heart defects sometimes suffer brain injuries during the surgery needed to fix their hearts. Researchers followed 38 infants under one year old, using brain scans and blood tests before and after surgery to look for signs of injury and inflammation. The goal was to gather information to help develop better tools for monitoring and protecting the brain during these critical operations.
