Brain chips tested to restore movement and sensation in paralyzed patients

NCT ID NCT03161067

Summary

This early study is testing the safety and initial effectiveness of a new brain implant system for people with paralysis in all four limbs (tetraplegia). The system records brain signals to control a device, like a robotic arm, and can also send artificial touch sensations back to the brain. Five participants will have small electrode arrays implanted in their brains for about one year to see if the system is safe and if they can successfully use it.
