Scientists scan brains to unlock genetic mystery linking two diseases

NCT ID NCT00302146

Summary

This study aimed to understand the connection between Gaucher disease gene mutations and Parkinson's disease by looking at how the brain uses dopamine. Researchers used PET and MRI brain scans to compare people with Gaucher disease, Parkinson's disease, or a family history of either, alongside healthy volunteers. The goal was to identify early brain changes and learn more about disease risk, not to test a treatment.
