Mind over matter: stroke patients train their brains to move hands again

NCT ID NCT04847089

Summary

This small research study explored whether stroke survivors could improve hand function by mentally practicing hand movements while receiving real-time feedback from their brain activity. Sixteen participants who had experienced a stroke at least six months earlier underwent training where they imagined opening and closing their hand while seeing a visual display of their brain's motor activity. Researchers measured changes in hand function, grip strength, and brain activity to see if this mental practice with feedback could help the brain reorganize and improve movement.
