Brain scans reveal hidden chemical clues in rare mitochondrial disease

NCT ID NCT06890520

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looks at brain chemicals in people with primary mitochondrial disease, a genetic disorder that affects energy production and can damage the nervous system. Researchers will use MRI scans to measure levels of glutathione and other substances in the brain, comparing 30 patients to healthy volunteers. The goal is to better understand the disease, not to test a treatment.
