Scientists probe hidden brain effects of ICU oxygen

NCT ID NCT07377162

Summary

This study aims to understand how brief increases in oxygen affect blood flow in the brains of critically ill patients on breathing machines. Researchers will temporarily adjust the oxygen levels for 80 ventilated ICU patients and use a non-invasive ultrasound to monitor brain artery blood flow. The goal is to gather knowledge that may help improve how oxygen is managed for future ICU patients, but participation offers no direct treatment benefit.
