Why do some stroke patients not improve after clot removal? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07534319

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at why about half of stroke patients don't recover well even after doctors successfully remove a blood clot from their brain. Researchers will use special MRI scans to measure blood flow changes in the brain at 3 days, 7 days, and 90 days after the procedure. They will follow 100 adult stroke patients to see if these blood flow patterns relate to how well patients recover 3 months later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify why some stroke patients don't recover well after clot removal, potentially leading to better treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It aims to understand the problem, not test a new treatment.
