New minimally invasive procedure challenges brain surgery

Summary

This study is testing if a less invasive procedure called middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) works as well as traditional open surgery for treating chronic subdural hematomas (slow brain bleeds). Researchers will compare the two treatments in 520 adults with moderate symptoms to see which one better prevents the need for repeat surgery and is safer. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the embolization procedure or conventional surgery.
