Brain scans reveal secret language superpower in AVM patients
NCT ID NCT07537504
First seen Apr 20, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at people with a brain condition called arteriovenous malformation (AVM) that affects the left side of the brain, which normally controls language. Surprisingly, these patients often have normal language skills because their right brain takes over. Researchers will use MRI scans to understand how this happens, studying 120 adults aged 18-60 who are right-handed and speak Mandarin Chinese. The goal is to learn more about brain flexibility, not to test a new treatment.
