Scientists map how the brain hears with two cochlear implants

NCT ID NCT02904187

Summary

This study aimed to understand how the brain processes sound in people who are profoundly deaf and have received a cochlear implant in each ear. Researchers compared brain activity scans from 43 deaf adults with two implants to scans from people with normal hearing. The goal was to learn how the timing of activating the two implants affects the brain's ability to process sound from both sides.
