Blood test may replace brain surgery for infection diagnosis

NCT ID NCT07479225

First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study explores whether a blood test can identify the bacteria causing a brain abscess, potentially avoiding the need for risky brain surgery to get a sample. Researchers will compare the blood test results with standard lab tests on surgical samples from 15 adults. If successful, this approach could lead to faster, safer diagnosis and treatment.
