New colonoscopy prep powder could mean less laxative, same clean results
NCT ID NCT06514989
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a low-residue nutrition formula powder, taken with a smaller amount of laxative (2 liters), works as well as a standard low-residue diet with more laxative (3 liters) for cleaning the bowel before a colonoscopy. About 757 adults scheduled for colonoscopy took part. The goal was to see if the new approach causes fewer side effects like bloating or nausea while still providing a clear view for the doctor.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- low-residue full nutrition formula powder
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could make bowel preparation for colonoscopy more tolerable by reducing the amount of laxative needed.
- What could go wrong
- This is a completed study, but it only compares two preparation methods; the new formula may not clean the bowel as well as the standard approach, and results may not apply to everyone.
