NCT ID NCT03658902

First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026

Summary

This study reviews the medical records of people who were hospitalized in French intensive care units (ICUs) for severe botulism poisoning. Botulism is a rare but serious illness caused by a toxin that can paralyze muscles. The goal is to describe what happened to these patients, what treatments they received, and how they fared, in order to give doctors a clearer picture of modern botulism care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help doctors better understand and treat severe botulism, potentially improving survival and care in intensive care units.

What could go wrong

This is a small, retrospective study that only looks at past records, so it cannot prove what treatments work best. Results may not apply to all patients.
