Botox shot before big hernia op may boost healing

NCT ID NCT07220382

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether a one-time Botox injection into the side belly muscles, given 3-7 weeks before open surgery for a large ventral hernia, helps surgeons fully close the abdominal wall. About 188 adults will be randomly assigned to get either Botox or a placebo shot, and neither they nor their doctors will know which. The main goal is to see if the abdomen can be closed without leaving a gap, which may lead to fewer complications and better recovery.
