New bone material could replace grafts in nose reconstruction

NCT ID NCT01234415

First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested a man-made bone material (HAP/TCP) to repair the nasal septum in 26 adults with severe nose injuries from trauma. The goal was to see if it is safe and works as well as using the patient's own bone, avoiding the need for a separate graft surgery. The material is designed to support the nose shape and help the breathing lining grow back. Results focused on safety issues like infection or material problems, and how well the nose looked and functioned after surgery.
