Scientists search for blood clue to rare bone disease severity

NCT ID NCT02868645

Summary

This study aimed to understand if a protein called periostin, found at high levels in the abnormal bone tissue of patients, could also be detected in their blood. Researchers measured periostin in 65 patients with fibrous dysplasia, a rare condition that weakens bones. They wanted to see if higher blood levels of this protein were linked to more severe forms of the disease.
