New psoriasis drug could rival stelara in major trial

NCT ID NCT05335356

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This phase 3 trial tested whether Bmab 1200, a biosimilar of the drug Stelara, works as well as Stelara for people with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. 384 adults received either Bmab 1200 or Stelara over 40 weeks. The main goal was to see how much psoriasis symptoms improved after 12 weeks. If Bmab 1200 proves similar in effectiveness and safety, it could become a new treatment option.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Bmab 1200 (a biosimilar of Stelara, a biologic drug)

What this could lead to

If successful, Bmab 1200 could offer a more affordable or equally effective alternative to Stelara for controlling moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

What could go wrong

This is a comparison study, not a test of a new mechanism. Even if Bmab 1200 works, it may not be superior to Stelara, and long-term safety is still being evaluated.
