Toxic algae threat: study tracks beachgoer illness across canada

NCT ID NCT06579170

Summary

This study aims to understand how often people and their pets get sick after swimming in lakes with blue-green algae blooms. Researchers are observing 2500 beachgoers at popular freshwater beaches in Ontario, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia over two summers. They're tracking who gets stomach issues, skin rashes, eye irritation, or breathing problems after water contact and measuring algae levels in the water to see if there's a connection.
