First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving low-dose iron pills to people in Ghana who were turned away from donating blood due to low hemoglobin could help them donate successfully. Over 500 participants were split into two groups: one received iron supplements plus nutrition advice, the other only nutrition advice. Researchers tracked how many made a successful donation within a year and monitored for side effects.
