Could matching donor sex save lives in blood transfusions?

Summary
This study aims to find out if matching the sex of a blood donor to the sex of a critically ill patient improves survival after a transfusion. Over 11,000 adult patients in intensive care units who need a blood transfusion will be randomly assigned to receive blood from a same-sex or opposite-sex donor. The results could change how blood is selected for patients worldwide to potentially save lives.
