Scientists track hidden infection risks in blood transfusions

NCT ID NCT00023023

Summary

This study followed over 1,700 patients for up to 9 months after they received blood transfusions to monitor for infections that might have been passed through the blood. Researchers collected and stored blood samples from both patients and their donors to create a library for future testing, helping to quickly identify any new threats to blood safety. The goal was to maintain high safety standards by continuously watching for known and unknown infectious risks in the blood supply.
