Blood test could spare thousands from invasive lung procedure for TB diagnosis

NCT ID NCT07230457

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests a new blood test that looks for TB DNA in the blood as a way to diagnose lung tuberculosis without needing a bronchoscopy (a scope inserted into the lungs). The test will be compared to the standard bronchoscopy method in 600 adults who cannot produce sputum or have negative sputum tests. If successful, this blood test could provide a faster, safer, and less invasive way to diagnose TB and even detect drug resistance.
