Blood test may spare elderly fallers from brain scans
NCT ID NCT07342023
First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a blood test can detect brain bleeding in older adults who fall repeatedly. Researchers will measure two proteins (GFAP and UCH-L1) in blood samples from 770 hospitalized patients aged 75 and older. The goal is to see if this test can safely replace some CT scans, which are harder to get quickly for elderly patients. The study does not change usual care, and the decision to do a CT scan still rests with the doctor.
