Simple blood test could spare seniors unnecessary brain scans

NCT ID NCT05425251

Summary

This study tested whether a simple blood test could help doctors decide when an older adult with a mild head injury needs a brain scan. Researchers measured two proteins in the blood of over 2,200 participants aged 65 and older to see if the test could accurately predict which patients had a brain injury visible on a scan. The goal is to reduce unnecessary CT scans, which are often performed but rarely show a problem, especially in elderly patients.
