Hospitals ran out of blood during COVID-19: study seeks answers

NCT ID NCT07490314

Summary

This study looked back at what happened to the blood supply in a Dallas hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers analyzed data from 100 adult surgical patients to understand why blood products were sometimes delayed for emergencies. The goal is to use this information to create better policies for handling blood shortages in future health crises and to guide rules about using blood from donors who had COVID-19.
