Can a blood flow cuff boost heart rehab?

NCT ID NCT07361393

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding blood flow restriction (BFR) to standard resistance training helps heart rehab patients get stronger and healthier. Twenty adults with stable heart disease will do exercises with and without a special cuff that limits blood flow to the arms and legs. Researchers will measure fitness, heart health, quality of life, and sleep over 10 weeks of training.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Blood flow restriction exercise using a pneumatic cuff

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a safer, more effective way to build strength in cardiac rehab patients.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early-stage trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply widely. The intervention involves restricting blood flow, which carries risks like discomfort or clotting.
