Could a blood flow cuff boost flatfoot recovery in teens?

NCT ID NCT07343752

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding blood flow restriction (BFR) training to standard physical therapy helps teenagers with spasmodic flatfoot more than therapy alone. Forty teens under 18 with rigid, painful flatfeet that didn't improve with initial treatment will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. Researchers will measure pain, ankle motion, muscle strength, and overall foot function to see if BFR makes a difference.

What this could mean

Active substance

blood flow restriction device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a better way to treat painful flatfoot in teenagers without surgery or strong medications.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants. The added benefit of blood flow restriction over standard therapy is unproven, and results may not apply to all patients.
