New device aims to reduce needle sticks for ER blood tests

Summary
This study will test a device called PIVO that collects blood samples for cultures using an existing IV line, reducing the need for extra needle sticks. Researchers will train ER staff on the device and track how often it is used and whether it leads to fewer contaminated samples. Up to 10,000 ER patients needing blood cultures will take part.
