Arterial line blood cultures: a safer way to spot sepsis?
NCT ID NCT07183410
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study looks at whether taking blood cultures from an arterial line (a tube already placed in an artery) is as good as taking them from a standard vein puncture for detecting bloodstream infections in intensive care patients. Researchers will compare contamination rates, how often true infections are found, and whether enough blood is collected. About 1,500 adults in the ICU will be included, and the goal is to improve how quickly and accurately doctors diagnose bacteremia.
