Pumping legs to stop killer clots: a safer option for ICU patients

NCT ID NCT00740844

Summary

This study tested whether adding leg compression sleeves to standard compression stockings was better at preventing blood clots than stockings alone. It focused on intensive care unit (ICU) patients who were at high risk of serious bleeding, meaning they could not safely take standard blood-thinning medications. Researchers compared the two methods in over 400 patients to see which one more effectively prevented clots in the legs and lungs.
