New drug added to brain surgery could reduce repeat operations

NCT ID NCT05491356

Summary

This study tested whether adding a clot-dissolving medication called tPA during a common brain surgery could improve outcomes for patients with chronic subdural hematomas (blood collections on the brain). The medication was given through the drainage catheter during surgery to help break down the blood clot, with the goal of reducing the need for repeat surgeries and shortening hospital stays. The study involved 40 adult patients who required this type of drainage procedure.
