New pill targets leukemia's genetic weak spot in landmark trial

NCT ID NCT07223814

First seen Nov 03, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This phase 3 trial tests whether adding the experimental drug bleximenib to standard chemotherapy improves outcomes for adults with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that has a KMT2A rearrangement or NPM1 mutation. Bleximenib blocks a protein interaction that helps leukemia cells survive. About 875 participants will receive either bleximenib or a placebo alongside chemo, followed by maintenance therapy. The study is double-blind, so neither patients nor doctors know who gets the active drug.
