Simple saline shot could cut common surgery complication

NCT ID NCT07208682

Summary

This study is testing whether a simple technique called hydrodissection—injecting sterile saline into the surgical area—can reduce the chance of accidentally nicking the bladder during a common surgery for stress urinary incontinence. The surgery involves placing a supportive mesh sling, and the tool used can sometimes puncture the bladder in 14-34% of cases. Researchers will randomly assign 300 women having this surgery to either receive the saline injection or not, to see if it lowers the puncture rate and improves other recovery outcomes.
