New bladder wash could spare patients from major surgery

NCT ID NCT07322263

Summary

This study is testing whether washing the bladder with two chemotherapy drugs, gemcitabine and docetaxel, can control high-risk bladder cancer that has stopped responding to the standard BCG treatment. The goal is to see if this approach can effectively treat the cancer and prevent it from returning, offering a potential alternative to surgically removing the bladder. About 174 adults who are not candidates for or wish to avoid bladder removal surgery will receive the treatment directly into their bladder weekly for 6 weeks, then monthly for up to 2 years, and be followed for 5 years.
