Pee test vs. scope: which do bladder cancer patients prefer?

NCT ID NCT06126796

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study asked 107 people with a history of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer whether they preferred a non-invasive urine test (CxBladder Monitor) or the standard cystoscopy (a thin tube inserted into the bladder) for routine cancer surveillance. Participants tried both methods and reported their preference and satisfaction. The goal is to see if the easier urine test could be a more comfortable option for regular check-ups.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

CxBladder Monitor (urine-based molecular test)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that patients prefer a simple urine test over an invasive scope for routine bladder cancer check-ups, potentially making surveillance less uncomfortable.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study focused on patient preference, not on whether the urine test catches cancer as well as cystoscopy. The test might miss some recurrences, so it may not replace cystoscopy entirely.
