Brain monitor may cut ventilator time and sedation in ICU patients

NCT ID NCT07219069

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using a special brain monitor (BIS) can help people on breathing machines in the ICU. The monitor tracks sedation levels, which may help doctors give just the right amount of medicine. Researchers want to see if this leads to shorter time on the ventilator, shorter ICU stays, and less sedation use. About 30 adults in the medical ICU who are on a breathing machine and receiving sedation will take part.
