Bionic breakthrough: new leg lets amputees feel their steps
NCT ID NCT03913273
First seen Feb 18, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study tested a new type of bionic leg for people with below-knee amputations. The leg uses special muscle sensors to let users control the foot's movement and feel its position. Researchers compared 14 participants who had the new surgery with those who had standard amputations. The goal was to see if the new approach improves walking, stair climbing, and overall control of the prosthetic limb.
