Scientists probe tube biofilm to unlock pneumonia mystery
NCT ID NCT04926493
First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study looked at the sticky layer (biofilm) that forms inside breathing tubes of ICU patients on ventilators. Researchers wanted to see if the biofilm's structure and germs are linked to a higher chance of developing pneumonia. The study involved 61 adults who had been on a ventilator for more than two days. The goal was to gather information, not to test a new treatment.
