Can bioactive fillings help teeth heal themselves?

NCT ID NCT07171775

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a new bioactive filling material helps teeth repair themselves after deep cavities are removed. 66 adults with deep decay will get either the bioactive filling or a standard one. Researchers will check for new tooth layer formation and pain over 2 years.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bioactive restorative system (adhesive and resin composite)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that bioactive materials help teeth repair themselves after deep cavities, reducing the need for more invasive treatments.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage trial with only 66 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The bioactive materials might not perform better than standard fillings, and long-term benefits are uncertain.
