Dissolvable screws could spare ankle fracture patients a second surgery

NCT ID NCT05662449

First seen Jun 11, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 11, 2026

Summary

This study looked at using bioabsorbable (dissolvable) screws instead of metal screws to fix a specific type of ankle injury called syndesmosis disruption. The goal was to see if these screws could hold the bones in place while they heal, then naturally dissolve, avoiding the need for a second surgery to remove metal screws. The study enrolled 15 patients and used CT scans and patient surveys to check results.
