New study aims to make bile duct drainage safer

Summary
This study compares two medical tools used to widen a passage for a bile duct drainage tube. Doctors want to see if a mechanical dilator causes less bleeding than an electrocautery (heat-based) one. The trial will include 64 adults with blocked bile ducts who need this procedure after other standard treatments have failed.
