Bile biopsy could replace needle for cancer diagnosis

NCT ID NCT06416397

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study aims to see if a sample of bile (a fluid made by the liver) can be used to accurately diagnose cholangiocarcinoma, a type of bile duct cancer. Researchers will compare results from bile samples with standard tissue biopsies in 200 adults who already need a procedure for bile duct narrowing. If successful, this liquid biopsy approach could offer a less invasive way to detect this cancer.
