New tendon transfer surgery helps patients with paralyzed hands regain grip
NCT ID NCT07605494
First seen May 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tested a surgical technique to help people with a severe arm nerve injury (pan-brachial plexus injury) regain the ability to bend their fingers and grasp objects. Seventeen patients who already had some elbow movement from a prior nerve surgery received a tendon transfer using their biceps muscle. The goal was to improve hand function without causing finger clawing. Results showed that the surgery could restore useful finger flexion, though some patients needed additional procedures.
