New drug trial aims to improve lung function in fibrosis patients
NCT ID NCT07036523
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests a new medicine called BI 765423 in 71 adults with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a lung disease that causes scarring and breathing problems. Participants receive either the drug or a placebo by infusion every four weeks for about 3 months. The main goal is to see if the drug improves lung capacity, measured by forced vital capacity (FVC), compared to placebo.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- BI 765423
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a new treatment to slow lung damage in people with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase IIa trial with only 71 participants, so results may not confirm benefit. The drug may cause side effects or fail to improve lung function compared to placebo.
