Researchers seek simpler test for Hard-to-Detect tumors

NCT ID NCT02826928

Summary

This study aimed to find a better way to diagnose and monitor small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (carcinoid tumors). Researchers compared different methods of measuring a key tumor marker called 5HIAA in both urine and blood. They tested whether a simpler overnight urine test or a single blood draw could replace the current standard, which requires collecting all urine for 24 hours over multiple days while following a strict diet.
